Makai Glass Maui is an Upcountry studio and gallery creating hand-blown glass art inspired by Hawaiʻi’s ocean, volcanoes, and wildlife. Founded by artists Justin Brown and Randy Schaffer, Makai showcases whales, dolphins, turtles, waves, jellyfish, murrini vessels, pineapples, and custom lighting pieces. Every sculpture is crafted on site in our Hāliʻimaile hot shop, where visitors can watch live glassblowing and explore a gallery filled with unique island-made art. We feature Exquisite Artwork, live glassblowing and Glassblowing Lessons where you can make your own beautiful piece of glass art! We first opened our doors in late December of 2017. Although Staub has blown glass professionally for nearly 30 years and operated his own glassblowing studio in Seattle for 8 years, Moana Glass by Ryan Staub is the culmination of more than half a lifetime's work toward the goal of setting up a studio and gallery where Staub can share his love of glass, involving the public through lessons and demonstrations and helping to keep alive this ancient, dying artform.
